Owner : North Carolina Department of Transportation
Location : Winton, North Carolina

McLean Contracting was the structure team member for an EV Williams lead team on this NCDOT Design Build Project located near Winton, NC. The project was designed by RK&K. The contract was for the widening of 7.1 miles of US13/158 from an existing two-lane highway to a four-lane divided highway with a 46’ median. McLean’s scope of work included the construction of five (5) new bridge structures and the parapet wall modification and deck rehabilitation of one (1) bridge structure. The feature bridge was a 1,100’ structure over the Chowan River. The other structure work included the demolition of an existing bridge and the construction of two (2) new 110’ bridges over Buckhorn Creek, two (2) new 85’ bridges for the interchange at NC45/US13 in Winton, NC and the rehabilitation of the existing bridge over the Chowan River.

All the bridges utilized precast concrete girder superstructures and prestressed concrete pile supported foundations. This project included work within an environmentally sensitive area and the marine work had to be coordinated with the local boat traffic and fishing tournaments.
